“What I would give… to go back and live in a dorm with a meal plan again…”
Hello. My legal name is Keenan Andrew Westcott. My nickname is Kyrus. My full stage-name is Kyrus Keenan Westcott. I am currently 27 years of age. I will be turning 28 on Tuesday, May 26.
I’m two years away from 30.
Does this mean I am grown-up?
I was texting with a friend of mine earlier today, and we were both talking about how we weren’t kids anymore. We have bills to pay, responsibilities, taxes to file, jobs to work, and so many more things that we didn’t have to worry about a couple years ago. I remember being younger and praying for the day that I’d be a grown-up… I’d be respected… and there’d be no drama… and yada yada yada…
Now, I often think about how I was responsibility-free I was my senior year of highschool. It’s crazy. Earlier this week, I spent part of my day writing down who my beneficiaries were just in case I were to suddenly pass away.
You know what my main responsibility was ten years ago?
Answering ten Algebra questions.
Now, that Avenue Q song has popped into my head… and sheesh, it’s slowly, but surely, becoming my theme song:
But alas, my friends, even though I don’t want to, I gotta go ahead and do this whole “be an adult” thing. It stinks sometimes, but it does have its perks. I could drink legally, I could rent a car, I can have a child without people asking me whether it was a mistake or not… you know, “perks”.
Look, I just need to embrace it.
Well, as they say, “30 is the new 29” … right?! (#optimism) … once I hit 30, it’s all uphill from there, right?
